SEEDS & FEED: Come See Us at a Pop-up Performance in the Coming Weeks.

Over the next few weeks, lucky attendees of various farmers markets around Philadelphia will get to see a sneak peak of the new Applied Mechanics show, FEED. Amid the tents of fresh produce and devotees of organic dirt, revelers from the world of FEED will assemble and perform The Hygge, a traditional dance from our newly created world. The Hygge is inspired by the Danish concept of the same name. It is a space or state of warmth, friendliness, and good cheer. It has a German cousin which you can read about on wikipedia here: Gemütlichkeit. With a host of awesome collaborators, old and new, the process for FEED has often felt pretty gemütlich.  Well, equal parts gemütlich, artistically inspiring, and challenging, as all new projects are. If you come out and see us at the markets, be sure to find one of the performers after their dance. They will have little goodies to distribute. Spoiler alert: these goodies contain seeds which you can plant, grow and eat. We will also be planting these seeds and growing produce to incorporate into the show as it develops over the next month. It’s been fun to think about devising as a complex co-conceived project with lots of human brains around the table that also takes prompts from nature: plants in the midst of their own process, with their own needs and trajectory. Come and see us!
